Chris Wood is entering his 16th season as the Har-Ber Wildcats Head Football Coach. He has been coaching high school football for well over two decades now and is the only head football coach in school history. His reputation as not only a good coach, but a leader and mentor to student athletes is well known in the state of Arkansas. We recently had the opportunity to find out more about Coach Wood and his coaching philosophy along with some insight about his personal life outside the game of football.

How long have you been coaching high school football?

24 years

What makes Har-Ber such a special place to coach?

The people. We have great parents, players, fans, administration, and faculty.

How would you describe your leadership philosophy?

Be honest and authentic with my coaches and players.  You want your organization to believe in the process and trust it.

What’s your favorite football movie?

All the Right Moves

What or who inspired you to become a football coach?

Football saved me in high school.  Because of football I went to school, passed classes, and stayed connected.  Can’t see myself not having football.

What are your thoughts on the current state of Razorback football with head coach Sam Pittman?

Coach Pittman does a good job sharing the vision and being honest in his conversations with hog fans. The program is in good hands, and we will continue to see yearly improvement.

What motivates you on a personal level?

Serving my family, football program, school, district and community.  Want people to be proud of Har-Ber football.

What is the biggest change you’ve seen in high school football over the last 20 years?

Creativity in developing the offense to attack defenses at all levels through tempo, formations, RPO at the 3 levels (line of scrimmage, LB level and secondary level).  Also see a change in crowd size with the ability to stream games from home.

What are your expectations for the upcoming season?

To compete for a conference title and put ourselves in a position to win a state title.

What inspires you?

1. My Lord and Savior  2. My family  3. My players
